Live token counter for AI chat interfaces

Last updated: May 2025

TL;DR

Tokeny collects absolutely no data. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing is ever sent anywhere.

What data does Tokeny collect?

None. Tokeny does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, conversation content, browsing history, or any other information.

How does it work?

Tokeny is a browser extension that reads the visible text already displayed on AI chat pages (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini) to estimate how many tokens your conversation has used. This processing happens entirely within your own browser, on your device.

No text from your conversations ever leaves your browser. No network request is made by this extension.

What permissions does Tokeny use, and why?

PermissionWhy it is needed
Content scripts on AI chat sites To read the visible conversation text and display the token counter overlay. No data is extracted or stored.
Local storage (localStorage) To remember your language preference (EN/FR) and whether tips are enabled. This data never leaves your device.

Third-party services

Tokeny uses no third-party services, analytics tools, advertising networks, or tracking libraries of any kind.

Children's privacy

Tokeny does not collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy is ever updated, the new version will be published at this URL and the "Last updated" date above will be changed. Since no data is collected, no material changes are expected.
